World Environment Day

By: United NationsBy resolution 2994(XXVII) of 15 December 1972, the UN's General Assembly designated 5 June as World Environment Day, to deepen public awareness of the need to preserve and enhance the environment. That date was chosen because it was the opening day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (in Stockholm, 1972), which led to the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
