7th Annual Pink Floyd the Sea Wall
Contact Info:
On November 30th 1979 Pink Floyd released an album called "The Wall". 37 years later on June 23rd, 2015 a group of elevated individuals will ride the Sea Wall during the entirety of the album which is 1 hour and 21 minutes.
We will ride under the moon this night but all sorts of trippy lights are appreciated to keep everyone comfortably numb. Is there anybody out there who wants to come? I will bring the boys back home or we will all be waiting for the worms.
FYI if it’s your first time. The ride ENDS at Third Beach. It’s up to you to leave when you want and to find your way safely home.
Pink Floyd the Sea Wall guidelines
Remember that you are responsible for your own safety! Please be responsible when riding and when deciding what and how much you put into your body. We urge you to stay sober and safe
First off, if you bring it to the ride, take it back home with you! Please don’t leave trash on the ground and help each other to remember this. If you have beverages don’t bring it in a glass bottle please, use common sense. Leave all empty cans near garbage’s or in recycling and put the waste into the waste bins.
Watch out for other cyclists and pedestrians! When you are riding on bike paths please ensure you are being considerate and leaving a good impression. There is a good chance we will dominate the seawall so please understand that we will be inconveniencing people. Leave a good impression with a “Sorry!” and don’t be rude if a pedestrian is upset. Also, if police are there, they are our friends and are looking out for our best interest. Please be respectful. Good vibes only!
Please condone yourself properly. If you are coming in the interest of being a drunken fool with a mob mentality, stay home.
The Music
Obviously, Pink Floyd the Seawall. You are all welcome to figure out however you will put the music onto your ipod, phone, mp3 player etc. The album we will be using will be Pink Floyd the Wall (remastered). You can find and purchase it on itunes at https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/the-wall-remastered/id704273346. Alternatively I am sure someone will post a torrent if you are so inclined.
Strap some battery powered speakers to your bike. Just before we start the ride, we’ll make an announcement via megaphone to get everyone with a sound system to gather in one spot. Then, we’ll do a countdown and all hit ‘Play’ at the same time.
Pretty much any electronics or music store will have something that you can bungee to your bike, ranging from $15 to $500. Part of what makes this ride awesome is that no matter how spread out we get, if we have enough sound systems, everyone still gets to hear the music! As an added bonus you can now rock music on your bike for the rest of the summer!
Lights
Please make sure you are lit up! We want to make sure we can see each other and have other people see us! The more colourful the better!
The Route
The year we are going to meet at Creekside park, Science World. We meet at 8:30 pm and ride at 9 pm sharp!
Remember this is a DIY ride so please make sure you are safe and have a way home. Find a group who is leaving at the same time for safety.
BE SAFE, SANE, RESPECTFUL AND MOST OF ALL…HAVE FUN
This ride is part of the Velopalooza cycling festival, June 9 to June 25, 2017. www.velopalooza.ca
**All human powered forms of transportation welcome**
Can someone post the route? Or is it still being decided. The seawall on the south False Creek path has been split (lines and some concrete dividers) for bikes and peds along most of the way to Granville Island now.
Hi Mark,
I spoke with the ride organizer, and as of this moment the exact route remains fluid and may change slightly based on rider turn-out. However, in general, the ride will follow the sea-wall bike route along the North side of False Creek out to Third Beach in Stanley Park. Hope this helps!
